For the past couple of years, I have been a fan of the Netflix show 'Alexa and Katie.'
That might seem cheesy because it's a children's show, but Netflix children's shows are more mature than there counterparts on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon.
The beautiful part of this show is the friendship between Alexa and Katie. They help each other through the ups and the downs. Katie's character is the best, most supporting friend; she even shaves her head to help Alexa through the loss of her hair. As the show goes on, Alexa learns that Katie has Anxiety attacks; she puts her struggles with cancer aside to help Katie.
The show highlights the difficulties Alexa faces as she loses her hair, goes to school, falls in love, and is continually seen as the 'cancer kid'. The show takes this a step further in covering how this affects her family. When Katie's anxiety is revealed, the show covers mental health awareness and everything surrounding anxiety attacks.
In addition to a great storyline with a good message, the show is well written, the actors and are talented, and the cast is diverse.
Now that the show has come to an end, I feel sad to part ways with such sweet characters. With only thirty-eight episodes spanning across four seasons, this show didn't receive the screen time it deserved. The seasons were way too short especially considering the Emmy nominations for the past two years.
These two friends push each other to be their best selves, stand together through the hard times, and ultimately show the beauty of friendship.
Goodbye Alexa and Katie!
