If you haven't seen the new Spider-Man, please watch it. I watched it the night it was released, and it was better than I expected.
This film answered almost every question that I had after watching Avengers Endgame, including why Spiderman's friends are still in high school five years later.
The story explained that those who disappeared in the 'blurb' or the 'snap' came back the same age while everyone else aged; Peter Parker, MJ, and Ned (Jacob Batalon) were snapped away. This created a difficult situation when they came back to a world that had existed without them for five years. Their previous classmates had graduated while younger kids are now the same age as them. Some of them became homeless because their apartments/houses were occupied by others.
The main part of this film was about Peter Parker being expected to take up the mantle of Iron Man. Spider-Man will never be Iron Man and should never be Iron-man. It's important that Peter learns who he is as a hero, separate from Iron Man. I think this film ended up doing a pretty good job of this by the end.
Without spoiling anything I will say that this film shocked me. It has a pretty big twist that they did a great job of hiding previous to the film's release.
MJ and Peter Parker
The film started off pretty quickly jumping into that Peter likes MJ without much explanation. I would like to have learned how he started to like her. If the story was the same as the comics then I wouldn't need that explanation. But this film has completely different characters including MJ who's name doesn't stand for Mary Jane but Michelle. I feel like this MJ is an odd character who is in other ways sweet. I would love to have another Spider-man film with even more development of her character so the audience can get to know her a little more.
End Credits Spoilers:
For the mid-credits scene, I was extremely shocked to find out how the world finds out Spider-man's true identity. What? This is crazy and I don't know how he will be able to live a normal life after this. He won't be able to go back to school or move to a safer place. When Tony Stark revealed his true identity his house was blown up. As a child with a lot less money, Peter and Aunt May are not as safe as Tony Stark was. Peter has fewer weapons and a small apartment (not secure).
The second end credits scene revealed that neither Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) or Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) was with Peter Parker, they were Skrull shape-shifters named Talos and Soren. Talos calls the real Nick Fury who is revealed to be on a spaceship with a bunch of Skrulls. This is an obvious nod to Captain Marvel and the fact that the next Marvel phase will be more focused on space threats.
