For years I have loved watching shows like Green Arrow and The Flash, but this show is something so much better.
What I like most about the show is it's about a typical teenage girl who takes up the mantle of Stargirl after her mother gets remarried to a member of the Justice Society of America. The family moves to Blue Valley, where members of the Injustice Society of America live. Once Courtney discovers her father is the late Starman, she takes on the mantle and builds a new Justice Society of America with her stepfather Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E.
Other DCTV shows that I like are centered around men in their late 20s. What's great about Stargirl is it's centered around Courtney Whitmore, a high school girl, facing typical teenage drama while trying to balance that with her newfound powers.
Shiv Part One and Two:
I don't want to go into a complete recap of these episodes, but I wanted to point out the easter eggs.
First off, Shiv or Cindy Burman and Stargirl fight twice throughout this two-parter. The first time they fight, the janitor from the high school comes to the rescue of Stargirl but runs away when Pat comes in. He mumbles to himself "S.T.R.I.P.E".
If you watched this episode and wondered who this odd man with a sword is and how he knows Pat. It's none other than Shining Knight or Sir Justin (from the comics): who was a part of the Justice Society of America and the All-Star Squadron. He is a superhero who comes from the time of King Arthur. His powers come from his enchanted armor and sword that fight against magic.
This character has a connection in the comics to Cindy Burman's father, Dragon King. As mentioned in the show, this villain is a 100-year-old war criminal who died during WWII (somehow he's still alive!). According to DC.Fandom.com, he comes from Japan and created extreme experiments during the war. In the comics, he worked with Hitler to shield the AXIS nations with his powers. The All-Star Squadron came to fight against them.
I went on to research these characters and found a similar story on writeups.org. saying that in the comics, Cindy Burman set out to make her father's plan happen at a football halftime show. She fights the Star-Spangled Kid (the original name for Stargirl in the comics) and S.T.R.I.P.E. Basically, she wins at first, but then the Star-Spangled Kid defeats her. After this, Shiv is dragged away by her father's minions who replace her limbs with cyber parts.
That is an oddly similar story to the two-part episode, which leads me to believe that it's based on this story from the comics. Just like in the story, at the end of episode eight, Cindy is dragged away by her father's minions.
If writeups.org is right, then Pat and Sir Justin will work together to take down Dragon King.
Moving on to Brainwave Jr. or Henry Jr.. In the comics, he distances himself from his father’s evil legacy by joining the All-Star Squadron. If the show is anything like the comics, in the next episode where Henry Jr. is struggling whether to choose the ISA or the JSA, he will ultimately choose the JSA.
I am excited to see what happens next.
