Last week I was able to attend a taping of the Netflix show, 'Alexa and Katie'. The show is about Alexa (Paris Berelc) who has cancer and her best friend Katie (Isabel May). This show takes the audience through the hardships that Alexa faces because of cancer.
The show especially shows what Alexa faces because of cancer sympathy. This makes it hard for Alexa because she can't tell if people are treating her kindly because they like her or just because she has cancer.
Before the taping, we parked at the Hollywood Forever cemetery. We had to wait to get into vans that took us to Netflix. Once we got into the vans they told us we had to turn our phones off.
We arrived at the studio and were seated in the last three spots. The cast was introduced and then a series of clips from last season were shown to catch us up to speed. The taping was very long but super interesting, especially since I want to work in television. I was able to see how they film multiple takes (filming of one particular scene more than once). They film a scene, and then the writers and producers look it over for changes. If so, they change the lines, instruct the actors, and film another take.
The one thing I must say about this cast is that they were all very kind and real. The taping environment was fun, especially when the DJ was playing songs in between scenes. The one person who stuck out to me the most was Emery Kelly, who plays Lucas Mendoza on the show (Alexa's brother). Kelly, in particular, came up to the audience multiple times to answer questions, sing, and dance.
The episode finished taping and they showed us prepped scenes from that particular episode. After that, the cast came out for photos with the audience.
