The Sweet Tooth's Guide to the Best and Worst Dessert Places in NYC

Updated: Sep 5, 2020

In Fall 2017 I was blessed with the pleasure of living in New York City for a semester. The semester was filled with amazing opportunities and experiences both good and bad. While I was in there, I was able to try out a lot of great dessert places, which I have ranked from best to worst.

1. New Territories

New Territories is known for bubble waffles. They serve bubble waffles filled with ice cream and toppings inside. Bubble waffles are sweeter and have more eggs than normal waffles. And instead of traditional squares, the waffles have bubbles.

When I went there I had the "Grandma's Way" because it doesn't have ice cream. This waffle had Nutella and bananas inside. This was the best dessert I've ever tasted in my life. I'm not exaggerating. Since I ate this bubble waffle, I have wanted to go back but I don't live in NYC anymore. I have tried normal waffles and pancakes with Nutella but it doesn't taste the same.

2. Sprinkles Cupcakes

If you live in NYC or go to visit, try Sprinkles. They have amazing cupcakes, the best I've ever eaten. They are sweet and soft. The best thing about them is they have a dairy-free option, "Chocolate Marshmallow Cupcake". This cupcake is so delicious, it tastes like a s'more, but in cupcake form. They also have gluten-free and sugar-free options as well. Please try this at least once!

3. Eli Bread

Eli Bread is a place I stumbled upon when I got off the wrong subway stop on my way to Central Park. I hadn't eaten lunch and found this awesome bakery to grab a quick snack. They have bread, loaves, muffins, and all sorts of treats. When I went inside I immediately found a carrot loaf pound cake, which got me so excited because I love carrot cake. This cake didn't have the typical carrot cake frosting which is great because I can't have that. It was so good that I ate this entire cake in one day. The loaf wasn't too sweet, it was just sweet enough.

4. Do Cookie Dough Confessions

DŌ is famous for filling ice cream cones with edible cookie dough. This is not only a great option for people with allergies, but also for people who have an inner child. They also have dairy-free and gluten-free options. The best part is you can eat cookie dough because it doesn't have eggs in it. If you eat too much at once it can make you feel nauseous because it's so sweet. I have a strong sweet tooth but had to eat mine over a period of two days. I do recommend trying it though because it tastes great.

5. Serendipity 3

Hot Fudge Peanut Butter. Too much for me to eat in one sitting.

I had dreamed of going to Serendipity 3 for a couple of years so it was definitely on my NYC bucket list. I went there with a couple of friends and was disappointed. I decided to get a "Hot Fudge Peanut Butter". The hot fudge was pretty plain, not very sweet, and definitely not worth $14.95. Though it was cool to see the restaurant from the film Serendipity, it wasn't worth the money. My friends did get the famous, "Frrrozen Hot Chocolate" and loved it. If you must go there, I recommend getting the frozen hot chocolate.

P.S. try to share with someone because they serve large portions and you can't take it home. Bring an extra cup or something or ask for one so you can split it with someone if you're weird about germs.

Try these places the next time you go to NYC or if you live there.
